WAX FAQ

What is waxing?

Waxing is simply a semi-permanent hair removal method. The technique removes hair from the root, and it takes 3 to 5 weeks for the new hair to grow. Unlike other hair removal techniques such as threading; waxing can be done on almost any part of the body including arms, legs, back, eyebrows, abdomen, face, bikini area and feet.

If you have never waxed before and have a big event coming up, such as your wedding, a vacation with your partner, etc., we would not recommend getting your first ever wax a couple of days before you go. Plan ahead and try to get in at least two waxes before you leave. This way, the first wax, which will be the more uncomfortable one, is out of the way. After your second wax, the results will be better and you won’t be uncomfortable for your special event.

  1. We ask that you discreetly disclose any and all medical conditions you have before we wax you, especially any STDs. Please freshen up before your appointment. Although we always prep the skin with an antiseptic before we wax, we cannot apply wax to skin with any debris on it. We will provide you with intimate wipes before your appointment if needed. Also, avoid caffeine for 5 hours before getting waxed will greatly reduce sensitivity. Caffeine restricts the blood vessels so skin is not getting as much blood flow which increases sensitivity.

There is some discomfort involved, however most women find it quite tolerable. Our estheticians work quickly and because of our unique technique the pain and the discomfort are greatly diminished.

3-4 weeks is recommended. It takes time to grow out each of the 3 cycles. If you come in prematurely you may not achieve a desirable result.

We recommend booking your appointment every 3 to 4 weeks.

Waxing slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner thus making it easier to remove and less painful when waxed. Shaving just one time in between will negate all that is gained from waxing and can further irritate follicles which can cause ingrown hair. Therefore, we strongly advise against shaving in between appointments.

If you have been shaving, there may be a transition period. It generally requires 2-3 consistent waxes to achieve optimal results which are: 3-4 weeks of hairlessness, softer hair, and less hair growing back. If you haven’t been shaving prior to getting waxed, these results may be obtained more quickly.

If possible, avoid scheduling your appointment just before or during your menstrual cycle. We recommend this only because we tend to be most sensitive during this time.

Our experienced estheticians move quickly. The Brazilian itself should take no longer than 15 to 20 minutes.

Yes! In concern for your health we never double dip our wax sticks. Never!

Yes! Internal Medication such as Accutane and topicals that include Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, Strivectin, Renova, ProActive, Avita and Benzoyl Peroxide. All of the above mentioned can enhance skin sensitivity that could lead to lifting of the skin when removing hair.

You should wait 3-5 days to get waxed after you have tanned. You should never get waxed if you are sunburned or even if your skin is pink. The very top layer of skin could pull off or “lift” which is painful and can result in scabbing. You should wait for 3 days after you have waxed to tan. Waxed skin is more photosensitive and is more susceptible to burning.

We do accept walk-ins, however we recommend scheduling your visit in advance in order to avoid an extended wait. Please be early or on time to avoid losing your appointment. If you’re unable to keep an appointment we appreciate calling within 24 hours prior if possible. If your service is 1/2 hour or longer we may request a credit card number to hold your appointment. You will not be charged unless you fail to cancel within 24 hours.

LASH FAQ

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are the application of synthetic or real mink lashes to your natural lash (there is no contact with your skin). Eyelash extensions add length, curl, and volume to your natural lashes and can be customized to enhance your eyes. Extensions come in a variety of thicknesses, lengths and colors.

The biggest myth is that lash extensions ruin your own lashes. They do not. If applied correctly by a properly trained and certified lash artist who's first priority should be your natural lash and eye health. It is recommended not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and even damage to your natural lashes. When lashes are applied properly and to each individual lash, they will shed with your natural lash cycle.

Since each eyelash extension is attached to a single natural lash, they will fall out naturally along with the natural growth cycle of each lash. However, you do lose 3-5 natural lashes everyday so after an average of 2 or 3 weeks, most clients will want to come in for a "refill" to keep their lashes looking full. There are many factors that could affect the retention of your extensions including improper home care, not cleaning the lash line, oily eyelids, the use of oil based products on or around the eyeline, medications, allergies, thyroid or hormonal issues, lifestyle, seasonal changes, a natural heavy lash shed, and so much more. If you do run into an issue with your retention, please contact us so we can troubleshoot and discuss next steps.

Are there products you should absolutely avoid? Keep water away from your lashes for the first 4 hours after application or touch-ups. Water can weaken the adhesive before it is set and cause lashes to fall off. Oil-based products or makeup removers around the eye area are not recommended. Using water-proof mascara on the extensions is also not recommended, as it is hard to remove and can actually pull off the lashes prematurely when trying to take it off.

he use of makeup, specially mascara is not really necessary. If you decide to wear makeup/mascara in addition to the extensions avoid oil based and waterproof products, and only use it on the tips of the extensions with a very light hand. This will be enough to give your eyes that “pop” along with the extensions. Using mascara at the base of the extensions will get very clumpy and can damage the bond between the glue and the lash extensions causing a lot of lash loss. We have oil-free/extension friendly mascaras and eyeliners for purchase for your convenience.

It is necessarily to clean and brush your lashes/lash line daily to prevent eye irritation, infection, blepharitis or other eye health issues. To do so, Gently cleanse (we will demo how to do it properly during consultation) the eye area and lashes with special lash extension cleanser (please do not use baby shampoo or facial wash) daily and prior to all fills for best results and retention.
